Rainy, heartfelt vineyard wedding near Boulder, Colorado—family, food trucks, and cozy backyard vibes captured by a Boulder wedding photographer.
As a Boulder wedding photographer, I’ve seen my fair share of Colorado’s unpredictable weather—but few days were as beautifully stormy and heartfelt as Marissa and Kyle’s celebration on her grandparents’ property just outside Boulder. Their day was filled with meaning, connection, and a touch of wild Colorado charm.
Marissa and Kyle met the new-fashioned way – on Hinge. They shared their first date at a coffee shop and it quickly became apparent they were meant to be. Some time later, while Marissa was on a girl’s trip to Boston, Kyle flew out and surprised her by proposing on the Boston Harbor Pier. She said YES and they began dreaming of their perfect wedding.
They decided to plan a small backyard wedding at her grandparent’s house surrounded by a small orchard and homegrown vineyard that’s been part of the family for many years. The couple bottled their own wine from the grapes grown on the property—thoughtful, personal wedding favors that told their story in every sip. Their day arrived moody and beautiful. In the early afternoon, clouds rolled in and light rain began to fall. We dodged raindrops during photos and guests gathered under the tree and tent, laughing the whole time. They opted to share their first look as Marissa walked down the sidewalk with her dad, and it was a tender moment as they locked eyes.
These two poured so much of themselves into every detail. From Kyle’s cat shirt (which was a surprise!) and custom-engraved pen to sign their marriage license, to gifting each guest with bottles of wine they made together last year from the very grapes grown on the property, popping a bottle of champage with a sword, and stuffing themselves on lobster rolls, it was a celebration was full of laughter, love, and all the unique touches that made it so them.
Dinner came from one of their favorite local food trucks, and guests toasted the newlyweds with champagne as the rain cleared. The soft light after the storm made for the dreamiest portraits—moody reflections on wet grass, the vineyard glistening, and the couple wrapped up in each other.
Oh and yes, there was a greenhouse sunroom and wine cellar room we utilized for photos
This wedding was the perfect reminder of why I love photographing in Boulder—the mix of natural beauty, heartfelt family connections, and couples who make their day entirely their own. If you’re planning an intimate celebration or backyard vineyard wedding and are looking for a Boulder wedding photographer who captures real moments and the beauty of the Front Range, I’d love to tell your story next.
