The Boulders is Black Canyon Inn’s modern mountain wedding venue, perched at the top of the property among natural rock formations with expansive views of the surrounding landscape. The venue features indoor and outdoor spaces, floor-to-ceiling windows, a wraparound deck and room for celebrations of up to 200 guests. Couples also have access to getting-ready spaces, on-site catering and bar services, and Black Canyon’s event coordination team. It’s an especially great fit for couples who want the beauty of a Colorado mountain wedding without sacrificing a polished, elevated reception experience. And from a photo standpoint, there is a lot to work with.
Guest capacity: Up to 200 guests.
Wedding style: Indoor ceremony + reception with mountain views, plus a wraparound deck for cocktail hour/outdoor entertaining.
Event time: 6.5 hours for ceremony, cocktail hour and reception.
Getting ready: Salon Suite + Lounge available starting at 9 a.m.

Food & beverage minimum: For weekend weddings May–October, the published minimum is approximately $8,000–$12,000. There is no food & beverage minimum on weekdays or November–April, according to the current venue information (as of Sept 2026).
Off-season: November–April is the lowest published rental range, making winter/early-spring weddings a potentially more budget-conscious option.

One of my favorite things about photographing weddings at The Boulders is the variety. You aren’t limited to one backdrop or one aesthetic for the entire day. For exdample, you can have:

Your Ceremony at The Boulders
The Boulders’ upstairs ceremony space gives couples the opportunity to get married surrounded by Colorado scenery while still having the comfort and polish of an indoor venue. The floor-to-ceiling windows are particularly beautiful for photographs because they allow the landscape to become part of the ceremony itself.
One of the things that makes ceremonies at The Boulders so visually striking is also one of the biggest technical challenges for a wedding photographer: the enormous difference in exposure between the interior of the ceremony space and the bright Colorado landscape just outside the windows. On a sunny Colorado day, the light outside can be dramatically brighter than the light inside. That means your photographer is working with an extremely narrow margin between properly exposing the people in the room and completely blowing out the mountain views beyond them.
It’s not a situation where you can simply point a camera at the couple and hope for the best. It takes experience, preparation and a strong understanding of off-camera lighting and exposure to photograph this space well.
During the ceremony, I need to balance several things at once: keeping skin tones natural, preserving detail in the landscape outside, maintaining the atmosphere of the room and working with changing natural light as the ceremony progresses. And because the most important moments happen once—and can’t be recreated—there isn’t much room for trial and error.
This is where an experienced wedding photographer makes a real difference. Rather than choosing between beautifully exposed people and a completely blown-out Colorado backdrop, I use lighting intentionally to balance the two. The goal is for your photographs to show both: the emotion happening inside the room and the dramatic Estes Park landscape beyond it. It’s one of those technical details you may never think about while you’re planning your wedding—but you’ll absolutely notice the difference when you’re looking through your photos afterward.

I’ll guide you through portraits with enough direction that you always know what we’re doing, while leaving plenty of space for the two of you to actually interact, laugh, breathe and enjoy being together. We’ll use the property and surrounding scenery to create a variety of portraits. And because I’m not interested in making every image look identical, we’ll create a gallery that feels dynamic and alive.

• rocks beyond the patio – easy access and so unique to this venue!
• covered entryway – if it’s raining or snowing, this space works so well for warm-feeling portraits
• in front of the reception bar – a fun spin on traditional photos!
• fire pit – after dark photos are a great way to create unique and intimate portraits.

Getting Ready at The Boulders
The Boulders includes dedicated getting-ready spaces, giving you and your wedding party a place to settle in before the celebration begins. These photos are some of my favorites to create because they allow the story of your day to begin long before the ceremony. The dress hanging in the room. Your mom putting on your necklace. Champagne. Laughter. A little happy chaos. And all the tiny details you spent months choosing.
I’ll photograph those things beautifully—but I’ll also keep an eye on the clock and help make sure we’re where we need to be when it’s time for the next part of the day.

The Boulders’ reception space is designed for larger celebrations, with an open, airy layout and a wraparound deck that connects the indoor and outdoor spaces. This means this is a venue where the party can actually feel like a party! And if you’ve invited 150 of your favorite people to celebrate with you, I want your photographs to show what that felt like. Not only the centerpieces. Not just the cake. I want the giant group hug. The dance floor going completely off the rails. The friend who somehow ends up leading the entire reception in a dance. Your grandparents smiling from their table.
