If you ask Joel how he met Kendra, he'd say "I won her in a poker game". While that's not entirely true, it's not entirely NOT true either. Their love story began when they were both attending a school business association conference in Keystone. A friend and co-worker of Kendra's suggested they get a group together to hang out that evening. One of the people on his list was Joel. By chance, Kendra bumped into him during a conference breakout session. The group coordinated to hang out to watch a Broncos game, and after winning a poker set at the party, Kendra walked over and asked Joel if he played poker. With a confident "Yes!", he asked if she wanted to start a game. They immediately shared a connection with their love for poker, and soon they were officially dating.
A few years later, they moved in together and continued their life of travelling and work. After a year of COVID lockdowns, they were excited to enjoy an almost normal Christmas. They made plans to visit Joel's mom and open gifts. Before they left to go to her place, Joel asked Kendra to open a gift. Multiple presents were nestled together as she unwrapped one after the other in smaller and smaller boxes. The final present was a small ring box. Kendra opened it only to realize it was empty. She turned around with a shocked "What?!" Instead, Joel had the ring on his finger and asked her to marry him. Of course, she said YES!
These two planned an early spring wedding at the beautiful Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Denver, Colorado. Their day arrived sunny and warm. Joel enjoyed a morning of poker, while Kendra spent quality time with her closest family in preparation of the day. I think the highlight moment was their first look. It was sweet and simple and perfect.
Couple's biggest wedding planning advice: "Get help! Hire a planner and have great people helping with the event."
